If you have been traveling to Uttarakhand frequently, you would have certainly come across KMVNs (Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam) and GMVNs (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam).

Besides being quite reasonably priced, the best thing about these Government Tourist Rest Houses is that you can blindly trust the location of these stays.

They are often located in the best possible locations in any destination and many a times I have checked in to these places in the dark and have been surprised by the morning view.

This was one such beautiful view of peaks I was surprised with at Baijnath in Garhwal Himalayas.

I was extremely lucky to go on a bike trip just days before the lockdown happened riding through some of the remote and little known routes of Uttarakhand.

This one spot was the perfect place for an evening break standing on the road right adjacent to a beautiful green valley!

The road between Munsiyari and Jauljibhi is one of my personal favorites. There are more dangerous and more picturesque routes in Uttarakhand and elsewhere but this one has a certain kind of calmness I absolutely loved.

The road goes along the Gori Ganga river, passing through quiet and small villages and the most striking part - it is a road full of Waterfalls. There is like an adorable waterfall after every few kms in this stretch. And this one waterfall dropped right on the road.

The best thing about a Mountain motorcycle ride is you find something unexpected and extra-ordinary in an unexpected corner.

We were surprised by a small valley of colorful wild Monsoon flowers while heading towards the 4500 metres high Sach Pass in Chamba valley. Beautiful stretches of wild colorful rare flowers spread in wide meadows.

Just an easy 2 kms trek from Dugtu Village, and you reach the Panchachuli Base Camp where your stay come with views like this.

The stay is basic yet comfortable but what's most striking is the clear view of the 5 mighty Panchachuli peaks (check my recent reels). This was one of my most rewarding and memorable trips of all time.

My first ever trek anywhere was in Chandrashila in the autumn of 2013. Since then, I have been to several treks esp in Himachal and Uttarakhand, but this place always remains special.

I have visited this place atleast 7 times and seen Chandrashila covered in white snow, completely green during Monsoons and fully clear with panoramic views during Autumn. It is like I have grew up with my trips here, through my 20s and have several beautiful memories here.

A trip to the Mountains is a lot about reflections. Reflections on how you currently lead your life, the choices you make and what gives you joy - is it money, fame, the corporate life, the indulgences a city has to offer, nature or is it something more than that.

Over the years, my reflections during my journeys on the Mountains has made me realise that one week in the Mountains is worth more than a month in the city. May be I will move to the Mountains forever soon or may be I will become a forever nomad. Time will tell! But for now, I want to spend some more time just chasing sunsets and landscapes like this where I find peace and more importantly I find myself.
